Tissot Gentleman Powermatic 80 Silicium – Green Dial – T127.407.11.091.01 - SOLD

The name says a great deal about what Tissot intended with the Gentleman.

This isn't really a dress watch or a sports watch. Instead, Tissot designed it to occupy the space between the two — refined enough to wear with a suit, but robust and practical enough to become an everyday watch.

Reference T127.407.11.091.01 may be one of the best-looking versions of the formula.

A 40mm stainless-steel case surrounds a rich green dial with applied silver-tone hour markers, luminous hands and a framed date display at 3 o'clock. The dial can appear almost black in subdued lighting before revealing considerably more green as the light catches it.

At only 11.5mm thick, the Gentleman also maintains relatively restrained proportions despite housing a full-size automatic movement.

Condition:

The stainless-steel case and bracelet show surface marks consistent with normal previous wear, particularly on the polished portions of the case, bezel and center links.

The green dial presents cleanly, with crisp printing, applied markers, hands and date display.

The sapphire crystal presents cleanly in our photographs.

The stainless-steel bracelet is fitted with its original Tissot butterfly clasp and is accompanied by the additional links shown in our photographs.

Movement & Performance:

Inside is Tissot's Powermatic 80 automatic movement with patented silicon balance spring, offering approximately 80 hours of power reserve. The movement operates at 21,600 vibrations per hour and can be viewed through the exhibition caseback.

The silicon balance spring is an important distinction. In addition to the extended power reserve, silicon provides improved resistance to magnetic fields — an increasingly useful characteristic in a world filled with phones, tablets, computers and other electronic devices.

Our timegrapher test showed approximately -5 seconds per day, 171° amplitude and 0.7ms beat error in the tested position.

These measurements represent a snapshot of performance at the time of inspection and are not a guarantee of accuracy in every position or under all wearing conditions.

And then there is the 80-hour reserve.

Take the watch off Friday evening with a sufficient state of wind and there's a very good chance it will still be running when Monday morning arrives.

The Gentleman Powermatic 80 Silicium is one of those watches that makes considerably more sense on the wrist than it does on a specification sheet.

At 40mm, it's large enough to have contemporary presence without being oversized. Sapphire crystal and 100-meter water resistance give it legitimate everyday capability, while the polished surfaces, applied markers and green dial allow it to transition easily into dressier surroundings.

Then there's the movement.

An 80-hour reserve and silicon balance spring are meaningful upgrades rather than marketing decorations, and they're features that would have commanded considerably more money from a Swiss automatic not very many years ago.

For someone buying a first serious Swiss automatic, the Gentleman is an easy watch to recommend. For an experienced collector, it makes an equally compelling uncomplicated daily wearer — particularly in this handsome green-dial configuration.
