Seiko Presage Cocktail Time STAR BAR “Houjou” Limited Edition SRPH78J1

The Seiko Presage Cocktail Time series has earned a following for some of the most striking dials available in an attainable mechanical watch, and the limited-production SRPH78 “Houjou” is a particularly beautiful example.

Created in collaboration with Tokyo’s famed STAR BAR, the watch takes its inspiration from the “Houjou” cocktail, created by bartender Hisashi Kishi using Japanese sake. Its extraordinary textured dial evokes golden Japanese rice fields, shifting from champagne and silver tones to warm gold depending on the light.

The gold-finished stainless-steel case is paired with sharply faceted applied indices and elegant dauphine-style hands, while a framed date window at 3 o’clock provides everyday practicality. A box-shaped Hardlex crystal reinforces the watch’s vintage-inspired character.

Inside is Seiko’s 4R35 automatic caliber, a 23-jewel mechanical movement with hacking, manual winding and approximately 41 hours of power reserve. The movement is visible through the exhibition caseback, which also identifies the watch as a Limited Edition.

At 40.5mm, the SRPH78 has contemporary presence while remaining appropriately proportioned for a dress watch. This example is particularly appealing because it includes the original Seiko presentation packaging and literature, the dark leather strap currently fitted to the watch, and the additional gold-tone bracelet and links pictured.
