Citizen Promaster Skyhawk A-T JY0010-50E Super Titanium Eco-Drive Atomic – Full Set - SOLD

If you're the kind of person who thinks a watch should do more than simply tell time, the Citizen Skyhawk A-T was built for you.

This is the Promaster Skyhawk A-T, reference JY0010-50E, one of Citizen's wonderfully over-engineered analog-digital aviation watches. Its densely packed black dial combines traditional hands with dual digital displays, multiple subdials and a rotating pilot's slide-rule bezel.

And that's just what you can see.

Inside is Citizen's U600 Eco-Drive movement, powered by light and synchronized by radio signal to atomic time standards. The Skyhawk provides world time across 43 cities, a 1/100-second chronograph, perpetual calendar, dual time, two alarms, 99-minute countdown timer, UTC display, digital backlight and power-reserve indication.

In other words, if a conventional three-hand watch is a pocketknife, the Skyhawk is a Leatherman.

Despite all that capability, Citizen constructed this version from Super Titanium, keeping a very substantial 46mm aviation watch surprisingly manageable on the wrist. The black ion-plated bezel and small red accents complete the instrument-panel aesthetic.

Condition

This Skyhawk is pre-owned and presents very well overall.

The Super Titanium case and bracelet show normal signs of previous use, including light surface marks and wear visible in the photographs. The dial and displays present cleanly, and the watch retains the purposeful, technical appearance for which the Skyhawk is known.

The bracelet includes multiple additional links, allowing considerable flexibility in sizing.

Movement & Performance

The Skyhawk is powered by Citizen's U600 Eco-Drive movement.

Rather than relying on a conventional replaceable battery, Eco-Drive converts available light into electrical energy and stores it internally. The U600 also incorporates Citizen's radio-controlled atomic timekeeping system, automatically synchronizing when an appropriate signal is available.

This is therefore not a watch that belongs on our mechanical timegrapher. Its appeal is precisely the opposite: solar charging, quartz accuracy and radio synchronization designed to require very little attention from its owner.

Citizen packed an extraordinary amount of functionality into this watch, then made the entire thing solar powered, radio controlled and light enough to wear comfortably thanks to its titanium construction.

The result is equal parts watch, aviation instrument and gadget — and it's one of those designs that is unmistakably Citizen.

For the buyer who wants a mechanical watch requiring regular interaction, this isn't it.

For the buyer who wants to put on a watch that charges itself, corrects itself and does almost everything short of filing a flight plan, the Skyhawk is difficult to beat.
