Rado Coupole Classic Automatic Power Reserve – R22878163

Rado may be best known for its pioneering use of ceramic, but the Coupole Classic shows another side of the Swiss manufacturer: traditional watchmaking presented with distinctly modern Rado execution.

And this particular Coupole has one of our favorite complications — a power-reserve indicator.

Reference R22878163 pairs a 41mm stainless-steel case with a rich black dial, applied silver-tone indices, date display at 3 o'clock and an analog power-reserve display at 9. The result is restrained enough to wear as a dress watch but considerably more interesting than the typical three-hand automatic.

The multi-link stainless-steel bracelet complements the polished case beautifully, while the curved sapphire crystal with anti-reflective treatment gives the watch the clean, almost uninterrupted profile characteristic of the Coupole collection.

Condition:

The stainless-steel case and bracelet show light surface marks consistent with normal previous wear. Overall, the watch presents very attractively.

The black dial presents cleanly, with crisp printing, applied markers, hands, date window and power-reserve display.

Movement & Performance:

Inside is Rado's Calibre 772 / ETA C07.821-family automatic movement, offering an impressive approximately 80-hour power reserve. The movement can be viewed through the exhibition caseback.

The power-reserve indicator at 9 o'clock provides something most automatic watches don't: an immediate visual indication of how much running time remains.

Our timegrapher test showed the watch running at approximately 0 seconds per day in the tested position, with 0.5ms beat error. These figures represent a snapshot taken at the time of inspection rather than a guarantee of performance in all positions or wearing conditions.

An 80-hour reserve also makes this an unusually convenient mechanical watch. Take it off Friday evening and, assuming a sufficient state of wind, it can still be running Monday morning.

The Coupole Classic Power Reserve occupies an interesting position in Rado's lineup.
