Glycine Combat SUB 20 ATM Automatic – Blue Dial & Bezel – 42mm – Box

This isn't one of them.

The Glycine Combat SUB 20 ATM combines serious Swiss tool-watch credentials with a color combination that gives it considerably more personality than the typical black-on-steel diver.

A rich blue dial and matching blue rotating bezel are paired with warm gold-tone case and bracelet surfaces, while large Arabic numerals and luminous markers give the watch the military-inspired character for which the Combat collection is known.

At approximately 42mm, it has real wrist presence without wandering into oversized territory. The dial also incorporates a secondary 24-hour scale, luminous hands and markers, and a date window at 3 o'clock.

Underneath the distinctive styling is a proper Swiss automatic dive watch: sapphire crystal, screw-down crown, rotating dive bezel, solid caseback and a factory water-resistance rating of 200 meters / 20 ATM. Period Combat SUB models of this generation were built around Swiss automatic movements, including ETA 2824-family movements.

Condition

This Combat SUB is pre-owned and shows honest evidence of previous wear.

The case and bracelet exhibit scratches, scuffs and finish wear consistent with regular use. The gold-tone surfaces show particularly visible wear in several areas, including around the lugs and bracelet.

The blue dial presents attractively, and the blue bezel retains strong color. Please examine the photographs closely for the exact cosmetic condition.

This isn't a safe queen. It's a Swiss dive watch that's been worn — and priced accordingly.

The watch is powered by a Swiss automatic mechanical movement.

We tested this example on our timegrapher, where it recorded approximately:

Amplitude: 269°
Beat Error: 0.1 ms

The amplitude and beat error are encouraging, although the rate is running somewhat slow. For a pre-owned mechanical watch at this price point, I would disclose the result exactly as tested rather than regulate it solely to produce a prettier number.

A Different Kind of Combat SUB

Glycine has been building watches since 1914, and the Combat SUB has become one of the brand's enthusiast favorites for a simple reason: you get an awful lot of Swiss watch for the money.
